Bulk Mark Notifications as Read
Bulk mark as read clears exactly the notifications you choose: tick the entries you are done with, mark them read in one action, and keep the rest unread as your to-do list. It is the tool for triage, when part of the list is noise you can dismiss and part still needs you.

Selection Mode
Ticking the first checkbox switches the panel header into selection mode, which carries its own controls:

Note
Switching tabs clears the selection. Each tab is a separate request to the server, so a selection carried over from another tab could act on notifications no longer in view.
Steps
Step 1: Open the Notifications panel from the bell button in the top-right toolbar.
Step 2: Hover a notification you want to mark as read. Its type icon gives way to a checkbox; tick it. Repeat for each entry you are done with.
Step 3: The panel header switches to selection mode, showing <N> selected.
Step 4: Click the Mark as read button in the header to mark every selected notification at once.
Step 5: The selected notifications are marked as read and the selection clears. On the Unread tab they leave the list; on All and Read they stay visible in their read state. Items you did not select are untouched.
Tip
To reverse these, find the notifications on the Read tab and use Mark as unread : individually through the hover action, or in bulk by selecting them there.
