Observability Overview

Observability shows how each container's volume, freshness, and key values change over time. Qualytics records the measurements and draws them as charts on two tabs:

  • Measures shows one card per container. Its chart follows the row count (from Volume Tracking) or the time since the last change (from Freshness Tracking), against the limits of the Volumetric or Freshness check you select on the card. A heatmap below summarizes each day.
  • Metrics shows one card per Metric check, with the value it recorded on each Scan.

The charts record what happened. Alerts come from the checks themselves, when a Scan evaluates them.

Permissions

  • Reporter on the datastore is enough to read the Observability tab and its charts.
  • Author on the datastore (or above) is required to change thresholds or the Maximum Age from the chart.
  • Editor on the datastore is required to turn Volume Tracking or Freshness Tracking on or off.

See Observability Permissions for the full matrix.

Looking to create or edit a check?

This section documents the Observability tab itself: how measurements are taken and how to use the inline controls (thresholds, Maximum Age, favorites, filters). To author or edit a check, see the Volumetric, Freshness, and Metric checks.

Deep Dive

  • Getting Started

What Observability is, why it matters, and how the Measures and Metrics tabs are organized.

    Getting Started

  • How It Works

When volume, freshness, and metric values are measured, where else they come from, and what each chart, color, and tooltip shows.

    How It Works

  • Examples

Reading the charts in real situations: a value past its limits with no anomaly, a missing day, and a container that became Inaccessible.

How-tos

  • Edit Threshold

Update the Min and Max limits of a Volumetric or Metric check directly from its chart.

    Edit Threshold

  • Edit Maximum Age

Update the Maximum Age on a Freshness check by entering a new value in the unit shown.

    Edit Maximum Age

  • Mark a Check as Favorite

Pin the containers and checks you review often to the top of the Observability listing.

  • Filter and Sort Observability

Search, filter, and sort the Measures and Metrics lists.
