Filter Presets FAQ
Answers to common questions about filter presets, including visibility, sharing, naming, and permission behavior.
General
What is a filter preset?
A filter preset is a named combination of datastores and tags from the Explore page filter bar. Once saved, it can be applied in one click, shared via URL, and managed from the Saved Filters dropdown. See Introduction for details.
How are filter presets different from the filter bar?
The filter bar lets you select datastores, tags, a report date, and a timeframe for the current session. Filter presets save the datastores + tags part of that selection as a reusable view that you can apply again later or share with another user. See Filter and Sort for the filter bar reference.
Visibility
Why don't I see a preset another user mentioned?
Visibility depends on your team's datastore access. A preset only appears in the Saved Filters dropdown if you have access to all the datastores it references. If the preset includes any datastore your team cannot access, the preset is hidden from your list. Ask a Manager or Admin to grant your team access to the relevant datastores.
Can a filter preset be private?
No. All filter presets are shared across the workspace. There is no concept of a personal or private preset. The only thing that limits who sees a preset is your team's access to its datastores.
Permissions
Why can't I edit a preset I can see?
Members can only edit, rename, or delete the presets they created. If a Member tries to modify another user's preset, the actions menu does not appear. Manager and Admin can modify any visible preset. See Permissions for the full matrix.
Can an Admin edit any preset?
Yes. Admins see every preset in the workspace and can edit, rename, or delete any of them. Managers can edit, rename, or delete any preset visible to their team (a preset is visible only if their team has access to all of its datastores).
Naming
Can two presets have the same name?
No. Filter preset names are unique across the workspace. Attempting to create or rename a preset to a name that already exists shows an error and the preset is not saved.
Are preset names case-sensitive?
Yes. Names are case-sensitive, so Critical Production and critical production are treated as different names.
Sharing
How do I share a filter preset?
Apply the preset in the Saved Filters dropdown, then copy the page URL. The link restores the same filtered view for anyone who opens it. The recipient must have team access to all the datastores the preset references for the link to work for them.
What happens when someone opens my shared URL but cannot access the preset?
The page falls back to the default unfiltered view without showing an error message.
Behavior
Why does the Save as new preset icon disappear when I clear the filters?
The Save as new preset icon next to the Saved Filters label is hidden until you apply at least one filter (datastore or tag). Once you select one or more filters, it reappears. You can also create a preset by opening the Saved Filters dropdown and clicking Add filter preset at the bottom.
What happens if a preset I have selected is deleted by another user?
The Explore page clears the selection and returns to the default unfiltered view without showing an error message. The same behavior applies if a team membership change removes your access to one of the preset's datastores.
Can I undo a delete?
No. Deletion is permanent. Once a preset is deleted, it cannot be restored. You can recreate a preset with the same datastores, tags, and name if needed.
