Tag Page

Each tag has its own page, with an Overview tab that sums up how the tag is used, an Assets tab that lists every asset carrying it, and a Map tab that draws those assets and how they connect. Use it to see where a tag is applied before you rename, merge, or retire it.

Opening a Tag Page

Click Tags on the left side panel, then click a tag in the list. You can also search for the tag by name or ID in the command palette. The page opens on its Overview tab. The breadcrumb at the top leads back to the Tags list.

Overview Tab

Summary

Card What it shows
Assets Tagged How many assets carry the tag. With the Data Catalog module, click it to open the Assets tab.
Quality Score The quality score across the tables and files that carry the tag, including those inside tagged datastores, with a chart of its recent history. Click it to see how the score is built, with its AI explanations and recommendations. Without the Data Observability module, the card says quality scores are not available.
Scope Global when everyone can see and apply the tag, or the name of the team that owns it. See Global Tags and Team Tags.
Category The tag's category, or -- when it has none.
Weight The tag's weight modifier. Hover the help icon to see how the weight changes the importance of checks and how much tables and files count in their datastore's quality score. See Weight Modifier.
Last Applied How long ago the tag was last applied. Hover it for the exact date and time, and click it to open the last tagged asset in a side panel when you can access it.

Description

The tag's description, written in Markdown. Users who can edit the tag can change it in place. The description of an external tag is read-only.

Footprint

How the tag is used across the platform, counted by asset type in three groups:

  • Data: datastores, tables and files, and fields.
  • Rules & Anomalies: checks, check templates, and anomalies.
  • Automation: flows and operations.

With the Data Catalog module, click an asset type to open the Assets tab filtered to it. When the tag is on nothing yet, the section reads This tag isn't applied to anything yet.

Timeline

One entry for each saved change: edits to the tag, the tag being applied or removed, merges, and the scans and flow runs that involved it. With the Data Catalog module, View assets on an entry shows the assets that change touched, as they were at that time. Add a comment, and mention teammates, to record why the tag exists or how to use it.

Assets You Cannot See

The counts on the page only include assets in datastores you can access. When the tag is on assets in other datastores, a note at the top says how many are hidden, so you know the totals are partial.

Assets Tab

DC Browsing a tag's assets

The Assets tab lists every asset that carries the tag, across every datastore you can access: datastores, tables and files, fields, checks, check templates, anomalies, flows, and operations.

  • Narrow the list with the All, Data, Rules & Anomalies, and Automation chips, the search field (name or identifier), and the filters. Sort by created date or name. The search and filters are kept in the page address, so a reload or a shared link keeps them, and they carry over to the Map tab.
  • Read where an asset lives from the breadcrumb on its row. A datastore, table, file, field, or check with open anomalies that carry the tag shows beside its status. Hover it to see how many.
  • See an asset on the map with Show on map on its row, offered for tables, files, fields, checks, and open anomalies. The Map tab opens centered on that asset.
  • Open an asset by clicking it. It opens in a side panel beside the list. Previous and Next, or the arrow keys, walk through the list in order, across asset types and pages.
  • Act on many by selecting their checkboxes: the selection bar offers Move to and Remove. Checkboxes appear only on the assets you can edit. See Move a Tag to Another Tag and Remove a Tag from Assets.

The filters narrow the list by:

Filter Shows only
Datastores Assets in the selected datastores.
Tables or Files Assets in the selected tables or files. Pick one datastore first. The filter is named after the kind of datastore picked.
Container type Tables, views, files, or computed tables and files.
Asset type Datastores, tables and files, fields, checks, check templates, anomalies, flows, or operations.
Check status Active or Draft checks.
Anomaly impact Anomalies at the selected impact levels.

Without the Data Catalog module, the tab describes what the module offers instead of the list.

Map Tab

DC Exploring a tag's map

The Map tab draws the tagged assets on a canvas, grouped by datastore, so you can see how they connect: each table or file, then its fields, its checks, and the open anomalies of those checks, in columns from left to right. Check templates and flows, which belong to no datastore, sit in a Global group. Tables and datastores that don't carry the tag themselves appear when they hold tagged assets, so every asset is shown in its place.

Cards with open anomalies that carry the tag show their count in an orange badge, and anomaly cards show their impact level. In each column, the assets with the most open anomalies come first.

  • Show or hide layers with the buttons in the toolbar: Fields, Checks, Anomalies, and Automation (flows and operations). Tables and files are always shown.
  • Read how much is drawn from the counter in the toolbar, such as Showing 40 of 125 assets. Hover it for a breakdown by asset type. When a datastore has more tables than are drawn, Show more beside the counter loads the next ones.
  • Expand a table or a check to load what is under it. A long branch shows the first items and a card to load more, or Pick from list to find a specific one.
  • Trace connections by clicking a card: its lines to the connected assets stay highlighted, and the Tracing bar names the path. Hover a card to preview its lines. In the Tracing bar, Focus selection brings the traced cards into view, and clears the trace, as does clicking an empty spot on the canvas or pressing Esc.
  • Find an asset with the Search assets field. Before you type, it lists the tables on the map with the most open anomalies. Picking a result whose layer is hidden turns that layer back on. To jump to a datastore, use Jump to , which lists the datastores the current filters show with their tables and open anomalies.
  • Open an asset in a side panel from the details button on its card.
  • Move around with the zoom controls, the minimap , or the keyboard: arrow keys pan, + and - zoom, and R resets the view.

The search field and the filters are the same as on the Assets tab, except Asset type, which the layers replace. Without the Data Catalog module, the tab describes what the module offers instead of the map.

Actions on the Page

Action Where Who
Edit The settings menu at the top of the page. Admins edit any tag. Other users edit the tags of teams where their team holds the Editor team permission. See Edit a Tag.
Merge The settings menu . Requires the Data Catalog module. Admins. See Merge Tags.
Delete The settings menu . Same as Edit. See Delete a Tag.
Move to The button at the top of the page, or the selection bar of the Assets tab. Requires the Data Catalog module. Any user, on the assets they can edit. See Move a Tag to Another Tag.
Remove The selection bar of the Assets tab. Requires the Data Catalog module. Any user, on the assets they can edit. See Remove a Tag from Assets.

On a tag's page, the command palette also offers Edit, Move to, Merge, and Delete, when you are allowed to use them.

An external tag, imported from a data catalog, shows where it comes from at the top of the Overview tab. Admins can edit it, but it cannot be merged, moved, removed, or deleted from its page, and it cannot be the tag another one is moved or merged into.
