Tags Introduction

A tag in Qualytics is a reusable label, such as Finance, PII, or Deprecated, kept in one shared library. You put it on datastores, tables and files, fields, checks, check templates, and anomalies, and it means the same thing everywhere it appears.

What Tags Do

A tag is more than a name on a badge. Once your assets carry it, Qualytics uses it to:

  • Organize your data by domain, sensitivity, or lifecycle, and filter lists and Explore by it.
  • Weigh quality scores, so the tables you care about count more in their datastore's score.
  • Rank checks and anomalies, by raising or lowering the importance of the checks that carry it.
  • Automate work, by starting Flows and running operations only on what carries it.

A tag on a datastore or a table also reaches the assets inside it, so one tag can label hundreds of assets at once.

Types of Tags

  • Global tags hold the vocabulary the whole organization shares. Everyone can apply them, and Admins manage them. See Global Tags.
  • Team tags hold the labels of one team. Only that team finds and applies them, on its own datastores, and its Editors manage them. See Team Tags.
  • External tags come from a connected data catalog, which owns their name and description. See External Tags.

How It Works compares the three types side by side and shows how a tag moves from one to another.

Where You Find Tags

  • The Tags list, from Tags on the left side panel, holds every tag you can see, with its description, category, weight, quality score, and number of tagged assets. Create and manage tags here.
  • Each tag's page, opened by clicking a tag in the list, shows where the tag is used and offers the actions that change many assets at once.
  • The tag picker on each asset, in its Tags field, is where you apply and remove tags one asset at a time.

Going Deeper

How It Works explains how tags influence Qualytics: how a tag's weight changes quality scores and check importance, how Flows and operations use tags, how a tag spreads through a datastore, and what editing, merging, or deleting a tag does to the tagged assets. Weight Modifier gives the exact math behind the scores.
