Move a Tag to Another Tag¶
DC Moving a tag's assets to another tag
Moving takes a tag off some or all of its assets and puts another tag on them instead. Use it to consolidate two tags that mean the same thing, or to reclassify part of what a tag covers, while both tags stay in the library.

What can be moved
Moving covers datastores, tables and files, fields, checks, check templates, and anomalies that you can edit. Flows and operations keep their tag. Moving the tag off an asset also moves it on the assets that asset reaches: the tables, fields, and checks inside a datastore, the fields and checks of a table or file, the checks of a field, and the checks created from a check template. External tags cannot be moved, and assets cannot be moved to an external tag.
What Can Stop a Move¶
| Situation | What you see |
|---|---|
| The Data Catalog module is off, or the tag is an external tag | Move to is not offered. External tags are not listed as targets either. |
| The tag is on no asset you can edit | The dialog warns Nothing to move. Check that you hold the edit permission on those assets. |
| A selected asset is one you can't edit | The dialog lists it with the reason Edit permission required, and the move stays off. Check templates also need the Manager role and access to every linked datastore. |
| You move to a team tag and a selected asset is outside that team's datastores, or is a check template | The dialog lists it with the reason A team tag can only be placed in its team's datastores and cannot be applied to templates, and the move stays off. |
| Another change is updating the same assets | The move fails with Some of these assets are being updated right now. Try again in a moment. Nothing changes, so you can retry. |
