Link Another Data Catalog
A field can be linked to an asset in each connected data catalog at the same time, for example in Alation and Atlan. This guide links the field in one more catalog when a link already exists in another.
Permission Required
You need the Editor team permission on the field's datastore, and more than one data catalog integration must be connected.
One link per catalog
A field holds at most one link in each catalog, and each catalog is connected once per deployment. The picker only offers the catalogs the field is not linked in yet.
Fields
The Data Catalog Links dialog shows the following fields.

| Link details | The card's header, with the catalog's logo and the asset's name in the catalog. A badge tells the link mode apart: Manual for a link you set yourself, Auto-linked for one the synchronization created. |
| Identifier | The asset's stable identifier in the catalog, with a control to copy it. |
| Location | Where the asset sits in the catalog's hierarchy. |
| Last Synced | How long ago the link last exchanged metadata with the catalog, with the exact timestamp on hover. Empty until a synchronization has exchanged metadata for this link. |
Steps
Step 1: Navigate to your datastore overview and select the field in the tree.
Step 2: Click Data Catalog Links in the tree footer. Or click the field's Settings button and select Data Catalog . The dialog shows one link card per catalog the field is already linked in.
Step 3: Click Link another catalog at the bottom of the dialog.
Step 4: The picker opens for one of the catalogs without a link. To link a different one, click the catalog's logo at the end of the search field and choose from the connected catalogs.
Step 5: Find the asset:
- Type into Search by name or identifier and pick from the results, or
- Click From URL next to the search field. A small box opens; paste the asset's URL from the catalog into it and click Get identifier.
Step 6: Select the asset and click Save.
Step 7: The dialog now shows one link card per linked catalog, each with its own Open in [catalog], Change asset, and Unlink actions.
